Getting Drawn Back In....

I still continue to make my forays into my local GW store and this weekend netted me the new issue of White Dwarf.  The new High Elf army book is due out this weekend, which I'll probably buy as the HE are my favorite fantasy army.  But what blew me away was the amazingly awesome Blood Angels army that was featured in the Army of the Month column.  The conversions and paint jobs have inspired me to start collecting Blood Angels now, instead of the Raven Guard I had originally intended.

Let's see how I do with this one.  I'm still looking for that one army that will continue inspire me to build a huge collection over the long term.

New Distraction

So I went a little crazy with our tax refund and picked up the Hordes Two-Player Battle Box.  While I enjoy Warhammer 40k, I'm not particularly happy with GW's business practices.  Which include substantially high annual price hikes.  Soon enough, I will no longer be able to justify the cost.

After checking Privateer Press' site and doing some quick math, I can't deny that they are a better bang for your buck.  I'm actually looking forward to trying this out. Maybe I can use a change of scenery.

Raven Guard Shadow Captain

I finished painting up the Captain for my Raven Guard army.  This army being a relatively easy army to paint, I'm restricting myself to building and painting one unit at a time. My starting list is only 750 points, so it should be able to get that completed in a reasonable amount of time. I'll probably add a Raven Guard decal to the apron, but otherwise - done.

Sorry for the lousy pic, I used my phone.  It's not the best paint job, but I'm trying to get this army done quickly.

Captain w/ power weapon
Command Squad

Dreadnought w/ lascannon

5-man Tac Squad w/ power fist

Predator w/ autocannons, heavy bolters

Raven Guard Anyone?

Spring is approaching fast.  And by that I mean that my schedule will be opening a bit more and afford me some time to actually play 40k.  I need to get an army done fast, so I can get on the table.  Again, I'm a space marine fan, so I'll go with the Raven Guard chapter for a couple of reasons.  I like the black ops, stealthy kind of theme and the fact that their armour is all black will make them that much faster to paint.

So I ran out and picked up a SM Commander, an SM Command Squad and a Tactical Squad today so I can get started right away.

See you soon.

...This Makes Me Sad.

This is what bothers me the most.  GW seems to be solely worried about it's profit margins and not considering the millions of loyal gamers.  As I mentioned before, I love their game systems and historically have not complained about their price hikes.  But I'm afraid that they will soon price me right out of the hobby.  With a wife and three daughters, I am hard pressed as it is to justify the expense of the game I really enjoy.  I can't see myself enduring the expense much longer.  I was very excited about the new Tau codex coming out this week.  I've always thought about trying another army besides space marines, but with the new Riptide Battlesuit at $85, I really became discouraged.  Oh, GW why have you forsaken me?!?

The models are awesome, but they are plastic, for God's sake. Plastic.
